Projects

Artwalk 1  Holiday Decorations

The OARC aims to continue improvement efforts along the Ocean Avenue commercial district between Phelan Avenue to Manor Avenue by involving merchants, residents, neighborhood organizations, and city agencies to prevent blight, crime, and disinvestment through a variety of community-building activities.

The OARC successfully accomplished the following in 2009:

  • -Raising over $22,000 for the Ocean Avenue Gateway Project
  • -Re-landscaping of the Ocean Avenue Gateway Project in a 2 month span with over 80 volunteers
  • -Raising $1,200 for holiday decorations and decorating Ocean Avenue with 55 volunteers
  • -Organizing an Ocean Avenue merchant mixer with 25 merchants in attendance
  • -Working with different non-profit organizations and District 11 Supervisor John Avalos to coordinate the first Artwalk along Ocean Avenue
  • -Completed 4 visual merchandising improvement projects along Ocean Avenue

OARC is excited to announce the following programs and events in 2010:

  • -OARC was awarded a $79,000 Capital Improvement Grant to work with 15 businesses on Ocean Avenue. Starting in March, we hope to have all projects completed within 1 year.
  • -OARC is working on possibly forming a Community Benefit District (CBD) for Ocean Avenue.
  • -The merchant mixer and Small Business Sidewalk Sale on Ocean Avenue
  • -Ocean Avenue Community cleaning and greening on the last Saturday of every month (except Nov. and Dec.).
