About the Art Walk & Sidewalk Sale

The Ocean Avenue Art Walk & Sidewalk Sale is a collaborative effort between District 11 Supervisor Avalos, Ocean Avenue Revitalization Collaborative, OMI Cultural Participation Project, Out of Site Center for Arts Education, local merchants and residents.

The art walk began in 2009, as a collaboration between various community organizations, merchants, and residents. This event is in the evening to invite people to patronize businesses in the commercial corridor and attend a FREE and safe event at night. More than 200 neighborhood residents attended the Ocean Avenue Art Walk. We showcased 6 different exhibitions of artwork and performances from teen and adult artists who live in the surrounding neighborhoods. Tree Frog Treks brought animals to showcase along with offering other children’s activities.

OARC began organizing the annual Ocean Avenue Sidewalk sale in 2007 to attract people to Ocean Avenue and support the local businesses. On the day of the sidewalk sale, merchants bring out their products to sell on the sidewalks, while artists and other local vendors are invited to sell their artwork or original designed clothing and jewelry.

This year we have combined the sidewalk sale with the art walk to grow our efforts in supporting local businesses and artists in the community. Musicians are also invited to play music on the sidewalk to get people to stroll along the Ocean Avenue commercial corridor. The Art Walk will consist of performances, exhibits, and activities for children.
